"ABC Dance Matrix Changes Lives."
"I am submitting this letter of recommendation in support of the ABC Dance Matrix program developed by R. Varela. I recently participated in a workshop and learned the basics of the ABC Dance Matrix. I was very impressed with the simplicity of the system. The movement techniques that were taught, in my opinion, seemed fundamental to the development of any movement skills.
I have been coaching sports (wrestling, football, pole vault, and diving) for the past 12 years. I also have had some experience with educational kinesiology. I am always on the lookout for ways to enhance my coaching skills. The ABC Dance Matrix is a wonderful way to conceptualize the warm-up process that precedes the practice of any sport. I plan to incorporate many of the ideas I learned into my wrestling workouts next year. I have a feeling that warming up this way will give me a clearer idea of the weaknesses each individual wrestler will have in learning new skills. I also can see how I can use this system to develop drills to strengthen movement weaknesses.
I performed a vigorous workout for two hours learning the basics of the ABC Dance Matrix and experienced no soreness or stiffness the following day. I call this system the "Varela Synthesis". The creators have taken the most fundamental elements of all movement and packaged them into an easy, fun, enlightened vision. I enthusiastically support their program and strongly encourage anyone involved in teaching physical activity to learn and explore with them."
-Matthew Hughes, Hawai’i Preparatory Academy, Science Dept. Chairman, Varsity Wrestling Coach
“Why is this fundamental body alphabet worth learning? To communicate better, to understand more about ourselves, to help self-esteem. To help each other. It’s another way to know about a person’s feelings, personality, expression.”
-Fleur Weinstock, Hawai’i Prep Academy Student
“These games and activities help you get in touch with yourself and relate to other people. Being a Montessori teacher, I feel they are a fantastic way to teach number, colors, time and shapes creatively. Older children and adults will have fun doing the more intricate games as well as toning and trimming their bodies. I would love to see this program in schoolrooms and physical education classes.”
-Elizabeth Winstead, Montessori Teacher
“Your dynamic concept of the use of body movements to symbolize the alphabets (letters, colors, numbers and musical notes) for everyday use and therapeutic exercise is truly a benefit to our exercise program.”
-Gaylynne Rivera, ADC, Activity coordinator, Kona Adult Day Center
“Your method is very good for integrating physical movement with literacy skills. It provides the opportunity for the older children to interact with the younger ones. This will be excellent for intramurals.”
-Rae Ann Hickling, M.S. 5th grade teacher, Kahakai School, Kona, Hawaii
“This is one of the most simple and important manuals of our time. And it is for this time. Thousands of years of human activity, study, movement and development have yielded these 12 Movements and the ABC Dance Matrix Program. I commend the Varela Family for their lifetime of hard work and dedication to create and share this dynamic series of exercises, movements and postures for the human body. This is something that may be practiced and applied at home, work, school, or outdoors. It is really simple and effective. Helps me to stay grounded, gets me energized, and helps relieve stress. I am beginning to see how when all of the 12 moves are learned and applied, they create a sort of flow that is starting to look like a dance."
“My morning routines have never been the same since I discovered and started utilizing the ABC Dance Matrix. My back pain isn’t so bad at the end of the day either because my body is more warmed-up at any given time. On a completely different scale, the ABC Dance Matrix completes the puzzle that Da Vinci and many other artists and architects were attempting to solve, which was to measure the microcosm of man. The saying, ‘as above, so below’ has inspired many visionaries including R.C. Varela.”
